BSF adopts four villages in quake-hit Jammu and Kashmir

The Border Security Force has announced its plan to adopt four villages in quake-hit Jammu and Kashmir.

RS Mooshahary, the Director General of the BSF said on Saturday that the force would adopt villages in Uri and Tangdhar, the worst affected regions in Jammu and Kashmir.

"BSF battalions are going to adopt a few villages in Tangdhar and Uri areas. We'll ensure that the villages we adopt get all the help from BSF for reconstruction, healthcare and other civic facilities. We have identified a couple of villages, but final identification process is going on. We'll be selecting the villages on the basis of our abilities to look after them," said Mooshahary.

Mooshahary said that the BSF was leaving no stone unturned to carry out the relief operations in the region even as nine BSF personnel were killed and several others had been injured in the quake.

The October 8 earthquake measuring 7.6 on the Richter, with its epicentre near Muzaffarabad in PoK killed around 38000 people in Pakistan, besides injuring several thousands. More than 1300 people were killed in Jammu and Kashmir.

The border areas of Uri, Kupwara and Baramullah in Kashmir were worst hit, with many houses buried under landslides and others developing cracks.
