Trekking in Jammu & Kashmir

Jammu & Kashmir the trekking season extends from July through September. Trekking in Jammu & Kashmir is of different kind, one may go for trekking for a week or for a day. One trek in particular covers half a dozen high altitude lakes, encircled by snow covered mountains.

One can enjoy the thrill and pleasure of trekking in the various regions of Jammu and Kashmir. There are a number of trekking trails from Kishtwar to a number Himalayan peaks that are not at a very great altitude. Most of these trekking tours offer packages that include all the trekking and camping equipment.

A trek that is popular among both the treks and the pilgrims is the Amarnath trek that takes one to the sacred cave of Lord Amarnath, one of the holiest naturally occuring shrines of Hindu faith.

Sonamarg is the starting point of a major trek passing several mountain lakes - Vishansar, Kishansar, Gadsar, Satsar and Gangabal. One trek leads all the way to the Amarnath Cave.

Gulmarg is also an important trekking base for those interested in trekking up the trails in the Pir Panjal ranges.

The tourist gets the feel of the natural beauty of the mountains and lakes . It is an experience of a lifetime.
