7 killed in the blast near Mufti's residence

The blast took place near the private residence of outgoing Chief Minister Mufti Mohammad Sayeed. At least 17 people were injured, and 7 were killed in the incident. All of the injured have been rushed to various hospitals for immediate treatment, and the entire area has been sanitised by security forces.

This is the second time that an attack has been launched at or near the Mufti's residence. Earlier, the militants had attacked Sayeed's residence in 2002, soon after he had taken oath as Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister.

The blast area was strewn with mutilated body parts. The intensity of the blast was such that nearby houses and shops were destroyed.
